Resource Management

MK Tech Solutions (MKTS) is in the business of helping manage and conserve resources.  We believe that these resources include, the air, land, sea and the raw materials they contain.  Thus, we develop technologies that either increase recovery of natural recourses or help restore our most limited resource - land and property.  All of these technologies are derived from a thorough understanding of chemical phenomena derived from almost four decades of experience in the petroleum, environmental and chemical industries.

Oil and Natural Gas resources fueled the phenomenal changes that occurred in the 20th century, and will fuel our transition to newer energy technologies in the21st or 22nd century.  While it is popularly thought that the world is running out of energy, this is far from true.  We are only finding it more difficult to tap new, very cheap, light-oil reservoirs.  Vast quantities of bypassed or virtually untapped viscous oil are known to exist in relatively accessible onshore areas.  The map shows the locations of up to 60 billion barrels of oil in the United States that could be produced with EOR techniques.  Until approximately 1970 the United States was the most prolific oil producing province.  Since then production has declined by over 50 percent because these techniques have not been applied widely enough due to low oil prices.  While this map illustrates the location of reservoirs in the United States, every oil producing province in the world contains large quantities of potentially recoverable oil.  In most reservoirs only 5 percent to 30 percent of the oil is recovered by primary or secondary techniques.  Enhanced oil recovery can help increase potential recovery above 50 percent of original oil in place in many reservoirs.

Regions with Potential for Enhanced Oil Recovery in the United States

The techniques for recovering this oil have been developed by major oil companies over the past 50 years and MKTS personel have decades of experience developing almost all improved oil recovery techniques.  We have an especially strong background in geological interpretation, gas-injection, thermal recovery, surface chemistry, surfactant applications and modeling production from Thermal, Immiscible, Miscible and Chemical projects in oil reservoirs throughout North and South America.   Some of these techniques can be used by independent producers without large engineering staffs.  Moreover, these oil field technologies have wide application for In Situ and ex situ remediation processes at potentially valuable contaminated land.

In situ coal gasification or liquifaction, oil shale liquifaction and gas hydrate production are future affordable sources of energy that can be produced to sustain industrial societies until practical renewable energy sources are developed.  MKTS continues to work towards developing techniques for producing these nearly unlimited resources of energy.

Remediation of Land is a major concern, not only because of public health issues, but also because land is a limited and valuable resource.  As this picture of a Superfund Site in Houston, TX shows, these problems can be situated in the middle of potentially very valuable real estate.  Thus, we provide expertise in both in-situ and ex-situ remediation.  The In-Situ Remediation techniques which MKTS supports are similar to the chemical flushing and steam injection, the thermal conduction and electrical electrical resistance heating techniques which we have spent decades developing and understanding in the oil industry.  In addition, the ex situ remediation techniques which we have developed for shallow contamination are derived from chemical and equipment development in the oil and chemical industries.  We design process for Superfund Sites in the US and contaminated soil world wide.

At MKTS we believe that remediation should be profitable to the land owner.  This is one of the most important drivers for the rapid return of land to valuable use and for protection of public health.

Business Relationship and Profit are keys to efficient management of our resources.  Little will happen unless it is profitable, and most effort will be wasted unless the business conducting it is well managed and financed. To this end, MKTS helps to both develop business and project plans and  identify needed supplies, technology or equipment.  Our contacts and experience can be very helpful.
